Or perhaps you are considering Clover but aren’t sure if Clover is the right POS for your business and are still weighing all your options. Whatever your reasons for looking at Clover alternatives, now is a good time to check out some of the top-rated competitors to Clover on the market. There are dozens of different POS systems on the market, but the following ones are the best alternatives to Clover, specifically.

Square has several proprietary POS hardware options that are comparable to Clover. The Square Terminal is similar in its form factor and function to the Clover Flex or Clover Mini, while the dual-screen Square Register (pictured below) is more of an answer to the Clover Station. For mobile businesses, Square’s $49 contactless and chip reader can be used to accept EMV and NFC payments, such as Apple Pay.
Payment Depot is one of the few trustworthy Clover resellers with straightforward pricing and no hidden fees or commitments. However, Payment Depot also offers another great product called SwipeSimple that works well for low-budget and low-volume processors. SwipeSimple is a fairly basic but very capable iOS and Android POS app that connects with SwipeSimple’s free chip card reader or Payment Depot’s amazingly priced $25 contactless reader. For external hardware, merchants can connect Star Micronics’ mPOP with an integrated cash drawer and receipt printer. If you want a more robust terminal, you can opt for the $299 SwipeSimple Terminal instead of one of the mobile card readers.
As a small business owner, who feels as if I been scammed twice already…My customers love the Clover POS and Clover Mini, they compliment it, but for processing. I would tell anyone not to go with Clover or First Data. They make running a business much harder then it already is. I don’t blame them all the way. I take some blame, but Clover – get over yourselves, you’ve already gotten so much money for equipment and also processing. Why not make a system which can be reprogammed?
Yes, Clover is pretty, but the system is modern in more than just its appearance. Clover is fast, powerful, and cloud-based, bringing not only your business’s look but also its payment processing functionality and back-end business management into the 21st century. You can use Clover to accept any kind of payment from Apple Pay to gift cards, tie in a customer loyalty program, manage employees, and much more.
Beware of the Clover scam. If you have the option to use a different service do so before you regret it. I was singed up for them as a complementary (obligatory) package of my checking account. Their service is unreliable. My business had to start using PayPal (I’m not getting paid to mention them). Clover services was masked underneath the bank’s “Merchant Service”. Once their service proved useless I tried closing the account to find out there is a $500 early termination fee or a monthly fee that I need to pay until the 3 year contract ended. The contract went on as the back account forced me to maintain it. Two month before the 3 year contract ended they charge the $500 early termination fee. Now I’m stuck in their collection department which is efficient unlike their customer service.

Toast offers all the restaurant-centric POS features you’d expect, from seating area management to menu management. Even offering more advanced functions, such as online ordering and kiosk mode, Toast is full-fledged restaurant management software, not just a POS. It’s not the cheapest POS around — packages start at $79/month — but certainly not the most expensive, either. The core software offered at the lowest price level includes cloud-based reporting, menu management, and kitchen operations, while paid add-ons include online ordering, loyalty, and gift cards.

My business partner and I decided to go with Clover and it was the BIGGEST MISTAKE!!! Every time we call customer support they tell us they can not help us we need to go to our iAccess account and submit the problem, and then they will send you an email explaining the process or who you need to contact. Be aware that the iAccess account is also a HIDDEN FEE that they do not tell you about BUT you are paying for it. We were so unhappy with all the HIDDEN FEES that we wanted to cancel. Here we are two weeks later, and still waiting for them to cancel our account. The number they gave us was the same number we had called FOUR times, and they are not the people that cancel your subscription. FINALLY, today on attempt number 5 the lady was finally able to contact me to the right department, and she admitted that she gets the same complaint all the time. So, beware they will keep sending you to the merchant number that has NOTHING to do with the Clover apps. Heads up when you are trying to cancel make sure you are well aware of who you speak to. They will keep charging your account until you FINALLY get directed to the correct department, and trust me you will be transferred at least 5 times each time you call.
