I have a month to month contract with my service provider and can stop using Clover with zero penalties, AND I ENCOURAGE EVERY BUSINESS TO NEGOTIATE THIS FOR THEIR CONTRACT. Granted I will never get my $1275 back for the Minis, I can’t even sell them on EBay because they are attached to my merchant service provider. But I can tell my story of why you may not want a Clover system.
Looks aren’t everything, but depending on your industry, it could be important to have a sleek-looking POS system on the counter, as opposed to some clunky black thing that uses Windows. For example, a gym or a trendy coffee shop may find that Clover fits in very nicely with their aesthetic. Clover’s beautiful hardware looks like it could be made by Apple, though it is arguably sturdier and more professional looking than a POS system with an obvious iPad.
Their customer service SUCKS!!!!!!! I have been put on hold for up to 30 minutes to have them get on the line and tell me I need to call a different number! Yes they can NEVER find your merchant ID number it's like you don't even exist. We are not a restaurant, and we have had to put our inventory in three different times! The little barcode scanner on the screen constantly stops working and when I tried to purchase a handheld barcode scanner just yesterday I spent the entire day on the phone, getting transferred, being put on hold, told I have to call different numbers and was finally told that they would email me the paperwork to get a scanner, and this is the best part.........they can't send the scanner until they receive my check BECAUSE THEY DONT TAKE CREDIT CARDS! What a ridiculous rinky dink operation! Run far far away from this system!
