My winery owns about $2,000 in First Data Clover equipment. It functions acceptably but not great. Our merchant processor charges 4.5% effective rate when you add in the fees. The fact that going to another merchant processor makes our $2K Clover equipment boat anchors is insane. We are going to jump to another POS and another merchant processor. I guarantee you we will NEVER purchase First Data services or a Clover. This business practice may be legal but it’s bad bad bad.

I have this Equipment. Highly do not recommend. Today i spoke to Kristopher #26812. I lease this equipment. Even, they make a lot of money on me than they charge $30 for shipping fee for replacement. Problem is that it keep breaking every 6 months. Last time i have got main station with cracks on main leg. Probably refurbished. It will brake soon. They will charge me $30 again… I can’t leave it like that. I need to share with my experience with other potential customers.

Clover hardware becomes even more expensive if you lease it, which is what a lot of Clover resellers will try to get you to do. (Please don’t lease any payment processing or POS hardware.) As mentioned, Clover is always sold with a merchant account, so you can’t just go out and buy the hardware on your own (without signing a merchant services contract).
Don’t Go with Clover… We got roped into a 3 year contract thru Suntrust, First Data and Clover… We lived in Arizona starting a business in Hawaii we wanted to get our equipment as soon as we could so we would be proficient with the units. We got our clover equipment in December 2015 moved to Hawaii in Febuary. The first time it was used for a sale was June 2016, I called suntrust and told them the equipment was not for us. He said sorry it’s to late to send it back we have since used the equipment maybe a handful of times more. Which all transactions are very visible to them. We called to send the equipment back they wanted $1829.13 to do that. Stay as far away from Clover, First Data and Sun Trust as you can. As a small business owner wish I knew then what I do now. Beware.!!!!

What Clover does not let you know when you sign up and it is in the contract is that they will charge you $25.00 charge back fee. So lets put this in perspective. You have a small sandwich shop and you have a charge back of 10.00. Clover will reverse the 10.00 charge and charge you 25.00. Wow....I don't know about you but that is a big hit...we pay .05 per transaction then the charges for MC and Visa then to be hit with a 25.00 charge back fee... When does it end. READ and ASK about the CHARGE BACK FEES! BUYER BEWARE
